Assignment 18- News App Critique

Image result for microsoft news app

Microsoft News, available for iPhone IOS and Android offers a lightweight and easy way to quickly access the news you need. When the MSN news app is opened for the first time it gives the opportunity for the user to access or select what they are interested in. The main window of the app shows news that may be relevant and useful for the user. Scrolling between topics is also allowed as well as switching to local news or news articles that are near the user’s location. The Microsoft news app also has a choice of dark and light themes as well as what type of breaking news notifications that can be sent to your phoneMy critique for this news app would be for it not to be cliché in many aspects. I would suggest for the app to include more things that other apps don’t have, like the availability to share or blog new stories from one’s personal aspect.

Assignment 17- Opinion (State, National, or International Issue)

Image result for mass shootings in america        Mass shootings in America has become one of the most common and dreadful crises in society today. The most notable mass shootings in the United States range from the year of 1922 to this present day. In 46 weeks of this year there have been 44 mass shootings in America. Mass shootings are known to often happen at schools, whether its at a grade school or a college university. The issue of mass shootings in America have been frequently updated for the past 10 years. Its hard to figure out how do we stop this issue and crisis epidemic as whole. Schools have practiced and performed lock downs, as well as enhancing security systems.

In my opinion I believe that America’s Gun issue plays a big role in mass shootings. No other country has the same rate as Gun violence in America. The United States has almost six times the gun homicide rate as Canada, 16 times in Germany, and seven times as Sweden. Guns in America is the reason to why there is a huge homicide rate in the country. Another issue to be recognized is that the US as a country has the highest rate of privately owned firearm in the entire world. I believe that more guns cause more deaths in America as well. To deal with this problem, America would have to make less guns accessible and then maybe there would be less mass shootings?

Assignment 16- Opinion Local Issue

Image result for video games   This semester at Southern Arkansas University, the Esports and Competitive Gaming program enhanced their club ten times bigger and better by being provided with a new and improved gaming lab at the top of Reynolds. The gaming lab includes 18 computers and big flat screened tv sets providing access to PlayStations and X-boxes. The eSports team already has 100 compromising members apart of the club, where there is also a gaming lab inside of honors hall allowing members to get their “game on” with upscale games like Call of Duty, NBA 2K, and the list goes on. The bigger gaming lab that is now located at the top of Reynolds is available from 8:00am-12:00am to not only students who are a part of the competitive eSports club, but to other students who just like to simply play video games without a structure or title.

There are about three issues I can come up with about the enhancement of gaming at Southern Arkansas University. Myself, my peers, and many other students have issues with completing our assignments in the library system, why? Because, clearly the Student Activities Administration at Southern Arkansas University didn’t really think this through. The reason to why myself and other students feel as if this new gaming lab wasn’t thought through rationally is because trying to make students use the same WiFi in the library or in any other learning/studying labs across campus as the gaming students isn’t necessarily working in some of our favors. Not to mention, Southern Arkansas University’s WiFi isn’t that great or up to par to begin with. There have been multiple complaints from students using the campus WiFi for other reasons like homework, blackboard, FaceTime, and the usage of apps. Which leaves me to the question, why can’t we get better and stronger WiFi, is there a separate network for the eSports club and those random gamers? Image result for poor wifi

I’m all for enhancement of clubs and providing the necessary resources to do so, but in my opinion, this is an issue for other campus students who aren’t a part eSports or those who aren’t quote on quote expert gamers. I feel that we should be able to access websites and studying material without difficulties and frustration with low speed internet.

Assignment 14- What's Trending On Social Media

A young mother was recorded “disciplining” her child at his place of education on November 7th, 2019. The video surfaced on Facebook, and Twitter all day where the mother received consistent criticism and backlash from a huge social media audience. Opinions were typed and updated hourly by faithful social media users. Internet users expressed how the mother “dragged” and “snatched” her 6 to 7-year-old little boy while he was his feet, and brutally whipped him with a belt in front of his teachers, as well as getting in her child’s face and calling him inappropriate names.
“If there wasn’t a video you would have thought she was talking to a grown man…disgusting” –Social Media User (Facebook).

“YUCK!!! How are some of y’all parents??? IMAGINE treating your child like this?” Social Media User (Twitter).

“Yall remember the other day I said majority of the Emasculation of the Black Male comes from Toxic Mothering…BOOM it has manifest in simple fashion fr the ones in the back..So yall wanna debate me again?” –Social Media User (Facebook).

The way the mother treated her young child in the video was processed as abuse. From my perspective, I do believe disciplining children is necessary, but in the proper manner, speaking as a parent. Many parents and guardians are disturbed by the women’s actions that were caught on camera. I mean did she really have to call him out of his name? Were her physical actions really necessary?

“Y’all baby these boys too much, that’s the problem!” –Social Media user (Twitter).
Image result for whoopings or child abuse“Y’all act like yall never got one of these types of whoopings before” –Social Media User (Facebook).

My personal question is, what will child services think when they discover this video?

Image result for indian rape
Seven people were arrested in India over the alleged gang rape and public shaming of a 15-year-old girl in northeastern Bihar stateThe alleged victim was not named under Indian law, and restrictions. The alleged victim told police she considered herself to be in a relationship with one of the seven men arrested and had agreed to join him and his friends for a walk on the night of the alleged attack, said Kumari. The following day, the girl's mother complained to village seniors who are alleged to have accused her of fabricating the incident.  It was then alleged that the girl's head was shaved and paraded her around the village as a punishment for making "false accusations," according to a statement provided by the alleged victim to police.

A total of seven people were arrested in August having to do with the connection of the case. In 2018, India tightened its rape laws, introducing the death penalty in cases involving minors following a series of high profile attacks. Indian women have to reconcile themselves with the reality, you save yourself - dress up properly, don't go out unescorted or simply stay at home - or remain unsaved. What is disturbing is what appears to be the rising number of children who are being targeted. India's crime records show that reported rapes of minor children had more than doubled between 2012 and 2016.

Assignment 12- Numeracy

Image result for c section
Approximately 1 in 10 women will have a high-risk pregnancy, but for various reasons. Conditions that can cause high risk include issues with both mother and baby. The percentage of women who have high-risk pregnancies is about 6 to 8 percent. Complications can fall into the category that is harmful to the baby and/or harmful to the mother. Many women develop gestational diabetes, which only affects the mother. Preeclampsia, which elevates the blood pressure of the mother during pregnancy, can be harmful to both mother and baby. Ectopic pregnancies can put both the mother and baby at risk when the embryo attaches to the fallopian tube, instead of moving to the uterus.

Miscarriages or premature births can also happen to pregnant women with certain risk factors. When going through labor, progress can slow, causing distress for the baby and mother. In some cases, a C-section is needed to keep from causing harm to both the baby and mother. The number of births by cesarean section is on the rise, climbing from about 16 million (12.1% of all births) in 2000 to 29.7 million. Performing a C-section seems to be ideal for the health of both women and newborns that have high risk pregnancies. Unlike in many countries where surgery is a challenge, women in the US can elect to have a C-section.

It gives them a lot more control over childbirth than waiting to go into labor naturally. The World Health Organization suggests that cesarean sections being performed lies between 10 and 15 percent, while a more recent study found it is a little higher, around 19 percent. Around the globe 21 percent of babies, or nearly 30 million, are delivered by Caesarean section, according to research from 169 countries published in the Lancet. In North America, the rate of C-section births increased from 24 percent to 32 percent in the 15-year span, according to the new research. In the United States, the lowest rate was in New Mexico (18 percent) and the highest in New Jersey (33 percent).
