The Camden Police Department reported 20 year-old Alyssa Cannon and her four-year old son, Braydon Ray Ponder dead on Tuesday, June 25th around 12:45pm at her home in Camden Arkansas. The family of the two victims had filed a missing person’s report, later in the same day bodies were found dead. Cannon’s family had expressed how they hadn’t seen or heard from Cannon and her son for two days, which was unlikely. According to the CPD Alyssa and the possible offender had dated and then she had later filed an order of protection against him desiring to end any form of contact with him. The order of protection stated that he was abusing her and threatening to kill her and was filed in October, 2017. Jory Worthen is believed to be suspect of killing Cannon and her four year old son.
Like other residents of Camden Arkansas, Worthen was employed at Aerojet Rocketdyne and according to some of his fellow employees Worthen has always seemed to have a short temper, and Cannon's family stated that he possibly had an mental health issue based off of his actions while he was in a relationship with Cannon. The Camden Police Department is still in search for Worthen months after the murder of Alyssa and Braydon. Police, investigators, and the family of Cannon and Braydon believe that the two were both in the custody of Worthen before the murder happened. According to Alyssa's Facebook page she was an employee at Sam's Southern Eatery, and was engaged to Worthen for about a year. According to past police reports and the order of protection that was filed in October 2017, Cannon expressed that Worthen was very possessive and abusive. She said that he would not allow her to listen to certain music or watch certain television shows as well as speak to certain family members.
"He was always controlling where I went, what I did, what I wore, who I talked to, and controlled my money that I worked for. He always called me names. I'm scared to be by myself, scared to be out in public, when people walk behind me. Scared to be around any other man,"....The protection order that Cannon had filed was ruled in her favor in November 2017, and was set for ten years. Two days after the murder it was discovered that Montez Woods had knowledge about the homicide and was arrested in Chidester, Arkansas on July 24th, 2019. Woods helped conceal the murder days after it happened assisting his friend (Worthen) with help to get away. Woods is currently arrested at Ouachita County Sheriff's Office on a $100,000 cash bond.
Camden Police Department says that Worthen is still on the run, and is believed to be in a White Honda Cord with Arkansas license plates. The Women Crisis Center of South Arkansas which is located in Camden Arkansas are more inspired by this story to help women who are suffering from Domestic Violence to help prevent murder cases like this one from happening. Authorities ask if the
U.S. Marshals believe that there is someone that is helping Worthen while he is on a very intense and unsafe run from authorities. Randy Cone who is the supervisory deputy for the Western Arkansas Fugitive Task Force has called the crime that Worthen committed "Heinous". Even though Worthen didn't have an extensive criminal history he still had issues staying out of some type of trouble according to Officer Moore of the Camden Police Department. Officer Moore said the Camden Police Department has been overloaded with phone calls from other counties and states relating to the crime.
Cannon's funeral services was held at Victory Church of Camden Arkansas on July the 2nd. Her family and several local stores are still raising money to pay off her funeral expenses. While Worthen is still on the run the U.S. Marshal has issued a $5,000 reward for his arrest. Authorities are constantly reminding local communities that he should be considered as harmful and dangerous. The U.S. press release describes Jory Worthen to have brown hair and eyes, to be six feet tall, and to have very noticeable tattoos on his body.
On August 8th it was reported that Worthen was last seen in the west-coast, so it is evident that he is still alive and hasn't tried to hurt himself or anyone else thus far. So far, it doesn't appear that Worthen is receiving help from a family member and network of his support is still unknown. The Camden Police Department asks that if he is spotted in their area to please contact their local law enforcement immediately. Authorities are urging the public to please provide any additional information if they have any. This murder and situation has known to be very heart breaking for both sides of family, but it doesn't justify the actions of the offender. Jory Worthen's whereabouts are asked to be reported immediately when discovered, and prayers are asked to be continued for Alyssa's and Braydon's family who are suffering a hard loss without justice at this time.
